July 4th Events and Activities

All around the country, people are gearing up for America’s favorite holiday: the Fourth of July.

Sarasota offers one of the most exciting Fourth of July destinations in the country with multiple thrilling fireworks shows, fun community events leading up them, and scenic waterfront events and vantage points to choose from.

Simply put, the fireworks are good here – and the parties aren’t too bad, either. What better way to celebrate America’s Declaration of Independence than a cookout, live music, and colorful explosions in the sky in sunny Sarasota?

For a few of the best Sarasota events, check out our list below.

Fireworks Over Sarasota Bay

Watch the sky explode with color this year over Sarasota Bay.

This annual fireworks show can be seen from anywhere in the downtown core and along the waterfront. Try Bayfront Park, Island Park, or, if you can swing it, a boat on the bay for best viewing.

These fireworks are one of the most awaited summer Sarasota events, and are an excellent way to kick off the season. The show is expected to begin around 9 p.m.

Live Music at Marina Jack

If you’re looking to see the fireworks from V.I.P. seating, reserving a table at Marina Jack is the way to go.

One of the best Sarasota restaurants on the water, this casual patio grill will be in full party mode for the Fourth of July. Expect upbeat live music and a special Independence Day menu to accompany the cold beer.

Marina Jack is located at 2 Marina Plaza, Sarasota, FL, and has both great food and water views – the perfect place to watch fireworks reflect off the bay.

An All-American Cookout at the Botanical Gardens

Celebrate the Fourth of July at an All-American Cookout at the Marie Selby Botanical Gardens, a lush botanical garden that serves to both educate and entertain visitors.

Enjoy barbecued meats hot off the grill, as you spend an evening with family and friends, both old and new. The event features live music from The Hydramatic, a soul-rock band inspired by some of America’s greatest. There will also be variety of kids’ games and activities.

The gardens offer a variety of rare plant species to view prior to the event including insect catching varieties, tall Australian ferns, a rainforest garden, banyan trees, a mangrove walkway and more. Finish off the evening with a great view of the fireworks over Sarasota Bay at dusk.

Fireworks on Siesta Key

Many who are interested in the downtown Sarasota real estate market love the versatility of the area: spend Monday to Friday in a bustling city, then head to the beach on the weekend.

This Fourth of July, spend an afternoon on Siesta Beach, one of America’s finest, then settle down on a blanket or beach chair once the sun goes down for the big show.

Fireworks are lit just north of the volleyball courts, with parking, restaurants, and many amenities right nearby. You can see the fireworks from anywhere near Siesta Beach, all the way down to Crescent Beach.

The 28th annual Siesta Key fireworks show will start after sundown, at around 9 p.m.

Myakka River Kayak Festival and 4th of July Jam Blast

Bluegrass, beer, and the great outdoors – an all-American way to celebrate Independence Day. Take a half-hour drive from downtown Sarasota to the Venice area for the annual Kayak Festival and Fourth of July celebrations in a bit of a different setting.

Rent kayaks and canoes in the morning (or bring your own) and spend the day cruising down the river. Enjoy a live Americana/bluegrass band starting as well as craft beer and great food from local restaurant and event partner Snook Haven.
